What to do in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer?

By going to the center of the village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a few minutes from the Hotel Cacharel, you will be in the heart of the capital of the Camargue. A major place of pilgrimage, meet every year on May 24 and 25 for the unmissable Gypsy Festival. In a festive and solemn atmosphere, discover the church of Saintes-Maries with the magnificent crypt of Sainte Sara.

The animals of the Camargue

To observe the typical birds of the Camargue, go to the Pont de Gau ornithological park. Marked paths will allow you to admire pink flamingos, marsh harriers or little egrets.

In Camargue, the bull is king. Go to a manade to discover the daily life of the herdsmen or to attend a ferrade. Follow the hiking trails that we will show you to discover the bulls in their natural environment. From May to October, discover the Provençal races in the surrounding arenas. During these shows, the animal is not badly treated.

The park is open all year round, from 8 a.m. until sunset.

The Camargue Museum

A 20-minute drive away, visit the Camargue Museum. There you will discover and understand the fragile ecosystem of this vast wetland, where marshes, ponds, wild animals and people coexist. You will be able to appreciate the permanent exhibition “The flow of water, the flow of time”.

The fortified city of Aigues-Mortes

The abbey church of Saint-Gilles du Gard
